Tesla's Cabin Radar: Game Changer or Glitch?

2025.2.6 activates a long-dormant cabin radar in Model Ys, promising improved safety. But this raises a lot of questions. Tesla claims this radar enhances first-row occupancy detection for dynamic airbag deployment. Is this a significant safety upgrade, or another overhyped feature? Some owners are even being offered free radar replacements. What about those of us who havent received this offer? Does this indicate a previous hardware defect, or simply an upgrade?

More intriguing is the apparent disparity between models. Model 3 Highland and Cybertruck manuals mention this radar, while Model S and X are conspicuously absent. Is this a strategic move towards cost-cutting in the premium segment, or will these models receive a different solution? With the upcoming 4D radar in the 2026 Model Y, boasting second-row occupancy and even biometric monitoring, the future of in-cabin sensing seems fragmented. Will older Model Ys and Model 3 Highland eventually gain these advanced features, or will they become a second-tier in terms of safety technology?

This raises a bigger question about Tesla's upgrade philosophy. Is this constant hardware and software evolution a benefit or a burden? While it allows for rapid innovation, it also creates potential for inconsistency and confusion across the lineup. What are your thoughts on this cabin radar rollout and its implications for the future of Tesla safety features? Share your experiences, predictions, and concerns below.
