Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Tesla Superchargers: A Compatibility Conundrum?

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 boasts the Tesla NACS charging port, seemingly a win for EV owners. However, real-world tests reveal a potential snag: the cable length on current Tesla Superchargers. With the Ioniq 5s charge port located on the rear passenger side, reaching the Tesla cabinet on the driver side can be a stretch, sometimes impossible.

This raises several questions. Is this a design oversight by Hyundai, a limitation of current Supercharger infrastructure, or both? Will Tesla’s V4 Superchargers with longer cables truly solve the issue, or will the rear passenger-side port location continue to pose challenges? Should manufacturers standardize charge port locations, and if so, where?

Furthermore, with Hyundai offering a CCS adapter and faster charging speeds on CCS, is the NACS port on the Ioniq 5 truly an advantage, or more of a marketing gimmick? Considering the growing Ionna charging network, is the current compatibility struggle a temporary growing pain or a sign of larger integration issues to come?

This cable length conundrum sparks a broader debate about EV charging infrastructure. How can we ensure seamless compatibility across different charging networks and vehicle models? What role should manufacturers, charging network providers, and regulatory bodies play in addressing this challenge? Share your thoughts, experiences, and predictions for the future of EV charging.
